Walshurleagueout: Week 4

Hey, it's me.  I'm 0-3...

So why are you reading this?

GFL NEWS

The Winners Circle: Jeff and Buster are the only undefeated teams remaining in the GFL, they will not meet till Week 6, so let's see if they keep the streak going till then.

Jimmy IR: Jimmy Garoppolo is lost for the season with a torn ACL, if he would have ran out of bounds instead of cutting upfield, the 49ers would still have their QB.  Downgrade to all the Niners with CJ Beathard now running the show.

Student beats Master: Did the Patriots really lose to the Lions?  Was that real?  Or am I in a simulation where Detroit pulls off impossible odds?  Wow.

The Basement Bros: And then there was two, Goose and Walsh are still searching for their first victory.  Any week now...

Waiver Wire Wonders

Ryan puts half his FAAB on Calvin Ridley: Hot take time...this is too much man.  Yes, Calvin Ridley is talented and Matt Ryan's 2nd favorite receiver but IT WAS THE SAINTS DEFENSE.  THE SAINTS DEFENSE IS LITERALLY GARBAGE.  Have you seen receivers numbers against the Saints? Greatly inflated.  Doubt he sustains this output but hey, maybe I'll be wrong.

Nic puts up $20 for Boyd wonder: Being opposite AJ Green pays dividends and Tyler Boyd has had back to back solid games in PPR.  It's a solid investment for Team OMWTFYB as the receiving core gets a boost from the move.

Walsh gets right with Godwin: Dropping only $3, I picked up Chris Godwin who has shown promise in Tampa Bay. Now depending if Jameis Winston comes back, this is more of a hold and see more than an instant start. Time will tell but I think he's well worth my investment.

Since, this segment is about all the waiver pickups, I've decided to consolidate the smaller moves in this area.

Goose: Picked up The Chargers defense and WRs Tyler Lockett and Sterling Shepard
Nic: Picked up kicker Ka'imi Fairbarn
Jeff: Picked up TE David Njoku
Walsh: Picked up kicker Adam Vinatieri and Seattle's defense

TRADE ALERT: In yet another move by Walshy's Warriors, he has moved on from a former star to try to get upside elsewhere. This trade is between the two 0-3 teams.

Walshy's Warriors receive:  RB Carlos Hyde and WR Amari Cooper
Shady Draft Strats receive: RB Leonard Fournette and WR Demaryius Thomas

Fed up with Leonard Fournette, I'm moving on to a more solid floor player in Carlos Hyde. The time to win is now.  Taking Amari Cooper is the ultimate risk reward but trading him for Demaryius Thomas could back to bite me but I'm in a win now move.  Amari will break out...sooner or later.

BUFFALO WILD WINGS GAME OF THE WEEK
Shri Returns (2-1) vs KZOO RIVER MONSTERS (3-0)
Projected winner: Shri 150-135
Shri top 3: Pat Mahomes, Michael Thomas, David Johsnon
KZOO top 3: Drew Brees, AJ Green, Mike Evans

Shri DANGER ZONE: Patrick Mahomes. WAIT WHAT?  That's right, this weeks DZ player is Patrick Mahomes because he's going on the road to hostile Denver and he's playing on MNF. Ryan Fitzpatrick faltered on MNF, I'm just following a narrative.  Von Miller and Bradley Chubb could making Mahomes night a living hell.

KZOO DANGER ZONE: David Njoku. Dealing with injuries at the TE position, Jeff will rely on Cleveland tight end David Njoku.  Now this is only a DZ player because we don't know how Baker and him will mesh but it's bold playing him but he had no choice with Engram banged up and Jordan Reed on bye.

Will has asked me to exempt him from the GOTW if he were to lose but since he beat Tyler, he's back here for the third straight week.  It's a testament to his team and owner skills to get this team to three straight GOTW appearances, let's see if he wins this one.

Walshy's Warriors (0-3) vs Lil Skeet Skeet (1-2)
Projected winner:  Walshy 135-134
Walshy's top 3: Philip Rivers, DeAndre Hopkins, James Conner
Skeet top 3: Andrew Luck, Zeke Elliott, Jordan Howard

Walshy's DANGER ZONE: Buck Allen.  I can't seem to quit Buck Allen.  No matter how many times I think I should move on...I plug him into that RB2/flex role but he has shown promise in the red zone and has hit 10+ points all three weeks so far.  The problem is if he doesn't get those TDs, you're looking at a pedestrian game.

Skeet DANGER ZONE: Andrew Luck.  Listen I'm a Colts fan, Andrew Luck isn't the QB he once was.  He was pulled from the final hail mary attempt last week because he doesn't have the arm strength to throw deep. Luck however is a QB1 in fantasy, you just need to hope he throws a couple TDs.

Walsh and the Commish are best friends, so this one hits a little close especially after their trade last week but Walsh will be on the edge of his seat hoping he has a lead going into MNF with Philster Goodell having Kelce and Watkins left to go.

OMWTFYB (1-2) vs OBJs give me a Chubb (1-2)
Projected winner: OBJs 147-140
OMW top 3: Deshaun Watson, Alvin Kamara, Jarvis Landry
OBJS top 3: Aaron Rodgers, Kareem Hunt, Odell Beckham Jr.

OMW DANGER ZONE:  Kenyan Drake.  Oof, what happened last week?  Adam Gase being an asshole?  Crazy bad day from Drake but hey, the Patriots just gave up 100 yards to Kerryon Johnson, so maybe Kenyan Drake can follow suit.

OBJs DANGER ZONE: Nelson Agholor.  The Titans have been no joke against receivers, they held the Jaguars to 6 points last week.  Carson Wentz is still a little rusty and could have a rough day in Tennessee.  More on that in the NFL picks.

Nic will hope Deshaun Watson and Co. ball out enough to make it impossible for KJ to come back and win on Monday night with Kareem Hunt, I'll say it's not impossible but anything can happen.

WHAT BIKE? (3-0) vs Captain Insano (2-1)
Projected winner: BIKE 133-130
BIKE top 3: Todd Gurley, Davante Adams, Ben Roethlisberger
Insano top 3: Antonio Brown, Carson Wentz, Tyreek Hill

BIKE DANGER ZONE: Corey Clement.  Corey Clement had a rough day. He bobbled a couple passes and only had 56 rushing yards, Buster probably will swap him out by Sunday but he's currently in the starting lineup.  With Jay Ajayi coming back, Clement's ceiling is capped.

Insano DANGER ZONE: Carson Wentz.  That's right, I'm not sold on either QB Ryan has rostered lol.  Carson Wentz is a sensational player but he is going to be in his 2nd game back from ACL surgery.  He had a solid outing against the Colts (12.20) but he still has to work on getting back to game speed.  Don't expect a 20+ outing from Wentz.

This should be a quality matchup but it SHOULD come down to MNF and Insano and Tyreek Hill will duke it out with BIKE and Emmanuel Sanders for the W. But someone could have an insurmountable lead and not even need to rely on MNF...

Shady Draft Strats (0-3) vs Marshawn of the Dead (2-1)
Projected winner: Marshawn 123-118
Shady top 3: Tom Brady, Keenan Allen, Saquon Barkley
Marshawn top 3: Kirk Cousins, Melvin Gordon, Julio Jones

Shady DANGER ZONE: Tom Brady.  Goose..bruh. I know you have Tom Brady in the lineup but you know Matt Ryan has outshined him every week. Matt Ryan just wants you to respect him...put Matty Ice in your lineup this week.

Marshawn DANGER ZONE: Latavius Murray.  What happened in Minnesota against Buffalo was clearly an anomaly but it's still concerning how bad Murray looked on 2 carries for 1 yard, so the sample size is miniscule.  But going up against Suh and Donald and that Rams defense IS A DEATH WISH.

This one is tough to call.  Either of these teams could win but it could come to the leg of Brandon McManus to get Tyler the victory and Goose another gut-wrenching defeat.

NFL GAME PICKS

Minnesota @ LA Rams:  Maaan, this one could go either way but I'm gonna take the Rams. They have the home field advantage and Todd Gurley.  You can't lose.

Cincinnati @ Atlanta: The Atlanta Falcons defense is abysmal.  They have a guy headed to IR each week, I think Dalton exploits that and gets the Bengals the victory.

Tampa Bay @ Chicago:  Short week for Tampa Bay and Khalil Mack pressuring Ryan Fitzpatrick will equal a Bears victory even if Trubisky and the offense falter.

Detroit @ Dallas:  Neither of these teams are world beaters but Detroit is way more competent than the Dallas Cowboys at this time.

Buffalo @ Green Bay:  Josh Allen may have wowed us in Minnesota but Lambeau is a whole other beast.  The Packers faithful will get to this kids head and the Packers will pull off the victory.

Philadelphia @ Tennessee:  UPSET ALERT!  I have the Titans beating the Eagles as the Titans are surprisingly no joke on defense and while a mess offensively, I just think Philly might not be ready for this one.

Houston @ Indianapolis: Houston gets their first victory in Indy.  I feel like Watson has a field day with this defense and torches them.  I'm not confident Andrew Luck will get the ball down the field efficiently.

Miami @ New England: Sorry Dolphins fans but Tom Brady will be out for blood after losing to Detroit...this isn't going to be pretty.

NY Jets @ Jacksonville: Hopefully Jacksonville wakes back up because this would be an embarrassment to lose to Sam Darnold and the Jets.

Cleveland @ Oakland:  Baker gets his first career victory against Jon Gruden and the pathetic Oakland Raiders.

Seattle @ Arizona: Rookie QB starting against the Seahawks and Russell Wilson against this defense.  WELP.

New Orleans @ NY Giants: Fire up all your Giants receivers, The saints defense are trash but Drew Brees is the golden nugget in the pile of trash and will lead the Saints to another victory.

San Francisco @ LA Chargers: This is gonna be ugly.  No Jimmy G, No hope for the 49ers.  Best of luck next season San Fran fans.

Baltimore @ Pittsburgh: Slight upset I suppose but with the Steelers defense being so mediocre, I expect Flacco to exploit them and I expect a few turnovers in Baltimore's favor to secure the victory.

Kansas City @ Denver:  I hinted at it earlier in the blog but I'm taking the Broncos to upset the Chiefs next Monday.  Mahomes becomes human throwing 1-2 interceptions and Case Keenum tears this Chiefs defense a new one in a Broncos victory.

Well that's Week 4.  Join me next week as we celebrate my first victory of the season :D

Walshurleagueout: Week 3

Well, I'm fed up with losing, so I'm quitting this blog.  See you losers next season!

I'm kidding, I'm not Vontae Davis, I'm Eric Walsh, the Matthew Berry of the GFL (though I actually have a full head of hair and I'm not employed by ESPN BUT I SHOULD BE!)  Welcome to Week 3 of Walshurleagueout.  Some teams are already looking like champion contenders while others are already to call themselves garbage fires...oh wait...that's me!

GFL NEWS

Buster outlasts Will in Game of the Week: Buster beat Will 183-172.94 in our Buffalo Wild Wings Game of the Week.  It was a potential championship game preview as Patrick Mahomes was dealing for Will's team but Buster was led by the powerful duo of Todd Gurley and Stephon Diggs to victory.  Buster is looking like a champion, now if only he could be humble about it ;)

Ryan Fitzpatrick Mahomes: Did you know that Ryan Fitzpatrick and Patrick Mahomes are the top two fantasy QBs currently this season?  I mean no one in their right mind thought  "Oh yeah the kid replacing Alex Smith and Jameis Winston's three game replacement are gonna dominate"  It's incredible to watch and I consider myself a fan of both these guys.

TB12 to JGnot12: The Browns traded Josh Gordon to the Patriots for a 5th round pick because my life is hell and I can't ever escape the Patriots not annoying me.

The Basement Bros: Still searching for their first win their week are Walsh, Goose, former champion KJ, and Nic.  Which none of them play each other and all playing what should be tough matchups, this could continue into Week 4...welp.

Waiver Wire Wonders

Phil grabs Dan Bailey, CLE defense, and Antonio Callaway: A nice haul for the commish aka Lil Skeet Skeet as he signs newly signed Vikings kicker Dan Bailey, streams Cleveland's defense against a rookie QB and picks up the man who might benefit the most in the trading of Josh Gordon in Antonio Callaway.

Tyler puts up $21 for Keelan Cole: Funny story about this, Tyler dropped Keelan Cole for Dez Bryant after the Josh Gordon news that he'd be released broke.  Sooo in hindsight maybe he should have just kept Cole?  But hey at least you're not me when it comes to this FAAB money...

Goose believes in Will Dissly...wait what: My buddy and football advisory Goose picked up Will Dissly for $6.  You'd be better off getting a $5 buck box from Taco Bell, speaking of which I had the double crunchwrap yesterday with the chipotle sauce, pretty tasty.  But yeah Will Dissly, maybe he'll score again this week in Dallas for the Seahawks.  He also picked up Dallas defense.

Walsh believes in Fitzmagic, spends $9 on two Bucs: WHO THE FOOK IS JAMEIS WINSTON? is what I say as Ryan Fitzpatrick is clearly the QB for the Bucs.  He is on an insane pace for this season and it should keep rolling against a Steelers team that just gave up 6 TD passes to Patrick Mahomes.  I also picked up Desean Jackson (what year is it?), John "Smoky" Brown and Bilal Powell.

Nic takes a flyer on Jesse James for $2:  Nic was relying on Tyler Eifert as his main tight end so he's going to take the chance that Jesse James repeats his performance this week in Tampa and with the injury to Greg "Legatron" Zuerlien, he picked up Robbie Gould.

TRADE ALERT: In a move that went unnoticed last night, Walshy's Warriors and Lil Skeet Skeet worked out a trade that is pending and will be processed Thursday.

Walshy's Warriors receive:  Will Fuller and Philip Rivers
Lil Skeet Skeet receive: Jordan Howard and Russell Wilson

Overall, this trade was agreed by both owners, each taking risk and upside into account.  For the Warriors, Will Fuller brings WR2/flex upside to his lineup and Rivers provides a solid QB1 to rely on week to week.  For Skeet, Jordan Howard will be an RB2 with RB1 upside and Russell Wilson will be a solid bench QB if anything were to happen to Andrew Luck.  Might have been a bit early to jump off these bandwagons but remember #staywater.

BUFFALO WILD WINGS GAME OF THE WEEK
Shri Returns (1-1) vs Marshawn of the Dead (2-0)
Projected winner: Shri 150-132
Shri top 3: Pat Mahomes, Michael Thomas, David Johsnon
Marshawn top 3: Kirk Cousins, Julio Jones, Melvin Gordon

Shri DANGER ZONE: David Johnson.  I never thought I'd be saying this but David Johnson is in trouble.  The Cardinals offense is putrid, Mike McCoy is driving this team into the ground.  He has been pitiful.  Maybe he'll get it going against Chicago...maybe not.

Marshawn DANGER ZONE: Adrian Peterson.  Listen the Week 1 game was cute but AD is going to be a game script play.  Here's the problem and it's a player Shri has...Chris Thompson.  Chris Thompson is balling for the Skins and Adrian Peterson is being hurt by it.

Tyler would like you to put some respect on his name as he has a 2-0 record but no one is talking him as a potential champion.  He will face a tough test in Will's team as he has a bevy of playmakers. Tyler will hope to have a comfortable lead because this game can be won in Detroit on SNF by Will if Gronk and Golladay go off.

Walshy's Warriors (0-2) vs KZOO RIVER MONSTERS (2-0)
Projected winner:  KZoo 134-114
Walshy's top 3: DeAndre Hopkins, James Conner, Ryan Fitzpatrick
Kzoo top 3: Drew Brees, AJ Green, Mike Evans

Walshy's DANGER ZONE: Desean Jackson.  Listen sure he's a burner and he's had two big games but you're a gambler putting him in as a WR2 this week.  It could be boom/bust.  Here's hoping I hit 21 and don't flop.

KZoo DANGER ZONE: Jay Ajayi.  Jay Ajayi is banged up and is day to day for this week's game against Indianapolis, if Ajayi were to be out for this game, the Monsters would rely on Devontae Booker or Doug Martin...yeesh.

With both of these owners having players in the MNF match between Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay, it should hopefully come down to Monday night, so Jeff and I will be glued to our seats watching MNF and seeing how this one pans out.  It's quite the David vs Goliath match though.

Lil Skeet Skeet (1-1) vs OBJs give me a Chubb (0-2)
Projected winner: OBJs 148-137
Skeet top 3: Andrew Luck, Zeke Elliott, Dalvin Cooks
OBJS top 3: Aaron Rodgers, Kareem Hunt, Odell Beckham Jr.

Skeet DANGER ZONE:  Dalvin Cook.  Dalvin Cook needs to get it going.  He has yet to have over 50 rushing yards in a game.  Sure, Kirk Cousins mean this is going to be a more passing heavy offense but Cook can still contribute there.

OBJs DANGER ZONE: Kareem Hunt.  Maybe it's just me but I don't think Hunt is getting much usage in this Mahomes offense.  He had a solid 15 points last week against PIT but he's very game script dependent.  Better days ahead I suppose.

This game will be over before Monday as Sony Michel will be the last man up.  If Sony Michel can propel KJ to his first victory, it would be an upset as Skeet should be favored despite to projection saying otherwise.

OMWTFYB (0-2) vs Captain Insano (2-0)
Projected winner: OMY 149-139
OMW top 3: Deshaun Watson, Christian McCaffery, Alvin Kamara
Insano top 3: Antonio Brown, Jimmy Garoppolo, Tyreek Hill

OMW DANGER ZONE: Jesse James.  I know you just put some investment in Jesse James but be weary that the Steelers also have Vance McDonald, now James is clearly a better player than Vance McDonald but I'd pump the breaks on Jesse James putting up huge numbers this week. Serviceable, sure.

Insano DANGER ZONE: Rex Burkhead.  The emergence of Sony Michel could leave Burkhead as the last running back on the Patriots totem pole. James White will get carries, Sony Michel will get carries, how many will Rex Burkhead get?  You never know with Billy Belicheck.

Nic's team here is stout with running back talent including the debut of Matt Breida who is one of the top running backs in total yards so far.  Ryan will have rely on his passing weapons of Antonio Brown and Tyreek Hill to cover up some blemishes this 2-0 team has.

WHAT BIKE? (2-0) vs Shady Draft Strats (0-2)
Projected winner: BIKE 146-126
BIKE top 3: Todd Gurley, Cam Newton, Stephon Diggs
Shady top 3: Tom Brady, Keenan Allen, Saquon Barkley

BIKE DANGER ZONE: Dion Lewis.  Dion Lewis had a rough game last week and with the Titans trending downward with the uncertainty of the quarterback position and not to mention they're going to Jacksonville this week.  YIKES.

Shady DANGER ZONE: Marvin Jones.  The TD last week saved this fantasy day but Marvin Jones is looking like the 3rd option for Matthew Stafford, the emergence of Kenny Golladay will be an issue for Goose.  But Marvin will have his boom days, better hope that's this week.

This one is an utter mismatch as we have a 2-0 team against an underachieving 0-2 team. The margin of victory is a projected 20 points. If for some reason, Goose is within victory, he can seal the upset of the season so far if Marvin Jones balls out.

NFL GAME PICKS

NY Jets @ Cleveland:  I'll take the Browns and Tyrod Taylor to beat the Jets.  Maybe the Lions game was a fluke but hey, Sam Darnold looks alright.

Tennessee @ Jacksonville: Jacksonville BIG.  I mean I never thought the Jacksonville Jaguars would be one of the best teams in the league but solid drafting and great management from Tom Coughlin has made the Jaguars a legit threat to the Patriots to win the AFC title.

Denver @ Baltimore:  I'm gonna take the Ravens at home to win this one.  The Broncos have looked better with Case Keenum but this Baltimore defense and a long road trip for the Broncos equals a Ravens victory.

NY Giants @ Houston:  I'll take the Texans to beat the pathetic New York Giants.  Watching their offense on SNF just made me mad I wasted my time.  Pray4Saquon.  And Eli too I guess.

Green Bay @ Washington:  The Skins are not as good as we thought they were and I think Aaron Rodgers exposes them in this one.

Cincinnati @ Carolina:  This one is a toss up but I like Cam Newton, I'm always picking the Panthers huh.  Well I can't deny that they have a good team and I think they're a bit better than a beat up Bengals squad.

Indianapolis @ Philadelphia:  The return of Frank Reich to Philly and the season debut of Carson Wentz will equal a long day for the Colts.  Even though the Eagles are beat up offensively, the Colts cannot match the firepower of Wentz.  Eagles by 10.

San Francisco @ Kansas City:  If Garoppolo was half the quarterback that Pat Mahomes is, this would be a game of the week contender but with how FLAKY Jimmy G has looked, I really expect Pat "Levitation" Mahomes to win this one easily.

New Orleans @ Atlanta:  I just feel like the Saints have too much firepower to match the Falcons especially with the lack of Devonta Freeman.

Oakland @ Miami:  The Miami Dolphins are going to be 3-0.  The Oakland Raiders are not good.  Jon Gruden made a mistake.  His mistake was thinking he could be a NFL head coach again.

Buffalo @ Minnesota:  I think I don't even need to explain this one.

LA Chargers @ LA Rams:  The battle for LA.  This might actually be a fun game but the Rams are scary, y'all.  Sean McVay is a very smart head coach and I expect him to game plan for Melvin Gordon and the Chargers accurately.

Dallas @ Seattle:  Man, Seattle looked bad on MNF. Russell Wilson can apparently not do it all on his own.  I think the Cowboys squeak this one out.  Mostly due to their defense.

Chicago @ Arizona:  THE BATTLE OF PUTRID OFFENSES, HOORAY?  Uh I'll go with the team that might put Sam Bradford to IR.

New England @ Detroit:  Hey Matt Patricia, remember the team you used to coach for? Yeah, they're going to rekt you on national television.  If the Lions pull this off, they're going to the Super Bowl.

Pittsburgh @ Tampa Bay:  BELIEVE IN FITZMAGIC BEFORE HE IS THE CHOSEN ONE.  Also the Pittsburgh defense just gave up SIX TOUCHDOWN PASSES to Patrick Mahomes.  Bucs win a shootout.

Alright see you back in Week 4.

Walshurleagueout Week 2

One week in the books and we already got some devastating injuries to talk about as well as some front runners already immerging in the GFL.  First waiver claims were made this afternoon and there is some shakeup for some teams, I'll be going over this weeks matchup, make this week's DANGER ZONE picks and of course, I'll have my NFL picks as well.  Let's start with news and waivers and then we'll proceed with this weeks matchups.

GFL NEWS

Injuries strike Buster and Walsh:  Buster was hit with the news of Greg Olsen reinjuring his foot Sunday against the Cowboys while I dealt with a real bummer as my 7th round draft pick Delanie Walker is out for the season with a dislocated ankle.  Walker always called Mr. Reliable by me was my surefire tight end for this year and well...he's gone.  Also Leonard Fournette's legs are made of jelly.  SERIOUSLY LENNY, HOW MANY FREAKING TIMES ARE YOU GONNA DO THIS TO ME!

That's Levitation, Mahomes: Pat Mahomes is looking like a legit QB1 as he shocked some experts as he and Tyreek Hill dominated this weekend in fantasy.  I have Mahomes in my ESPN league and was thrilled to see the kid produce big numbers, we'll see if he can keep it up.

No Le'Veon, No Problem! :  The Steelers were fine without Le'Veon Bell this week as James "The Terminator" Conner put up a marvelous fantasy afternoon with over 100 yard rushing and a couple of receptions, he basically made my match against Buster look less terrible.

Motor City Kitty Pity:  What the (bleep) was that Detroit...I mean seriously.  You looked absolutely awful against the New York Jets.  How?  I mean how does this happen.  That was one of the worst games of football I've ever watched.  Shameful.  I know I said Matt Patricia was a bad hire but he didn't need to prove it to me Week 1.  Jebus.

  Waiver Wire Wonders.

Walsh picks T.J. Yeldon and Jared Cook:  I had to get T.J. Yeldon and a tight end.  I now have T.J. Yeldon..you all saw how much I paid for him.  Wish I had known you guys weren't going to bid on him to troll me...but yeah, I paid a quarter of my FAAB on Yeldon and he's a former Bama kid.  Gross.  And yeah, Jared Cook who looked like a baller but he could very well be fools gold but hey, I'll take the risk on him being the focal point of Gruden's offense.

Will gets Pat Mahomes for $8: In what be a championship winning move, Will picked up wonder boy Patrick Mahomes, now he did drop Matt Stafford which I think was a bit of a bold choice but it was him or Goff so obviously you keep Goff.  Mahomes might get Will back to the championship, time will tell.

Tyler wins Quincy Enunwa for $3: WHAT A STEAL!  Tyler gets what will probably be Sam Darnold's favorite receiver in Quincy Enunwa. He beat out Goose by one dollar.  Anyways, Enunwa has solid value in PPR and will be a valuable asset to Tyler's team

Nic grabs Cole Beasley: Probably the best value he could get, Cole Beasley is the receiver to own in Dallas but that's not saying a lot, however he does have a solid floor in PPR and will have value when you need him.

Buster gets Eric Ebron for FREE: Shockingly, I did not go after Ebron because Jack Doyle is still in Indianapolis and despite his fumble is a solid tight end 9/10 times.  The thing with Ebron is he's going to have limited appeal to due to snap counts.

Goose grabs Philip Lindsay and Geronimo Allison: Nice pickups Goose.  Lindsay will eat into Royce Freeman's production and Geronimo Allison has appeal in Green Bay as long as Aaron Rodgers is healthy and he got them for NOTHING.  Steals my friend.  STEALS.

AND NOW THE MATCHUPS, INCLUDING OUR BUFFALO WILD WINGS GAME OF THE WEEK!
See the source image

Buffalo Wild Wings GAME OF THE WEEK:  Shri Returns (1-0) vs WHAT BIKE? (1-0)
Projected winner:  Shri 148-143
Shri's Top 3 players: Pat Mahomes, David Johnson, Michael Thomas
Bike's Top 3 players: Todd Gurley, Emmanuel Sanders, Davante Adams

Shri DANGER ZONE: Rob Gronkowski,  obviously you're going to start Rob Gronkowski but this Jaguars defense is no joke.  The main reason why he's on the danger zone is because of the injury concerns and we all know, the Jaguars are no fans of the Patriots

Bike DANGER ZONE: Jack Doyle, the fumble last week is concerning but he does have production in the Colts offense, I just wonder if he'll get shut down by Washington's defense.  Tight End is a crapshoot anyways.  Best of luck Buster.

Will and Buster are both 1-0 and Buster was within 1 point of having the same points total as Will.  Both these teams are stacked.  I can't really pick a winner but I'd favor the guy with Todd Gurley pulling this off.  Buster is going to hope Mahomes was a one week wonder.

Revenge of the Goats (0-1) vs Marshawn of the Dead (1-0)
Projected winner: Goats 136-115
Goats Top 3 players: DeAndre Hopkins, Russell Wilson, Jordan Howard
Marshawn's Top 3 players: Melvin Gordon, Julio Jones, Zach Ertz

Goats DANGER ZONE:  Jared Cook.  Yes, he looked great against the Rams but Jared Cook always does this.  He shows up with a monster game and then he's a nobody the rest of the year.  You have to hope this year is different and that Derek Carr and Jon Gruden are going to make him a target monster in Oakland.

Marshawn's DANGER ZONE: Robby Anderson.  1 target.  Robby Anderson has 1 target last week.  Now he did have the TD which save him but it is concerning.  So proceed with caution on Robby Anderson.  Also at the time of this article, Tyler does not have a WR2 or K in.

This one is going to come down to MNF.  I will rely on a combination of Russell Wilson and Jordan Howard to win me my first victory.  But if I'm lucky James Conner will do enough on his own to let me just enjoy the game on Monday with no fantasy implications lol.

Lil Skeet Skeet (0-1) vs OMWTFYB (0-1)
Projected winner: OMWTFYB 147-141
Skeet Top 3 players: Zeke Elliott, Dalvin Cook, Travis Kelce
OMY Top 3 players: Alvin Kamara, Deshaun Watson, Christian McCaffery

Skeet DANGER ZONE: Dalvin Cook, Cook had a pedestrian game against San Francisco.  Maybe he just needs to get back up to his game speed but he should bounce back against the Packers who just gave up 80 yards to Jordan Howard.

OMW DANGER ZONE:  Deshaun Watson.  Wow, Watson did not look great against the Patriots but then again, it was the Patriots.  He should bounce back against a Titans secondary that got torched by Ryan Tannehill last week.

A lot of duds on these teams last week, A lot of disappointment all around.  So this is a bounce back game for both Nic and Phil.  And someone is going to come out with a victory. Phil will rely on a combination of Allen Robinson and Chris Carson to win him the game on Monday night.

KZOO RIVER MONSTERS (1-0) vs OBJs give me a Chubb (0-1)
Projected winner: KZOO 137-135
KZOO Top 3 players: A.J. Green, Mike Evans, Drew Brees
OBJs Top 3 players:  Aaron Rodgers, Odell Beckham Jr., Kareem Hunt

KZOO DANGER ZONE: Evan Engram.  Yes, I'll say it again.  Tight End is a crapshoot, it's Russian Roulette, and Evan Engram had a down game last week.  He might bounce back against the Cowboys but temper expectationa

OBJs DANGER ZONE:  Aaron Rodgers.  I know Aaron Rodgers is the best QB in the league but you have to monitor his status going into Sunday.  Regardless, Minnesota and him have history.  Minnesota is where his season ended last year.  Even on one leg, he's the best QB in the league, you're not going to bench him but it could be a down week for A-Aron.

Jeff will hope to have the game done and over by Sunday night but if not, KJ has Trey Burton to rely on as his Monday Night Miracle.  The most impressive thing is Jeff won last week even without Le'Veon Bell.  He's a force to be reckoned with.

Captain Insano (1-0) vs Shady Draft Strats (0-1)
Projected winner: Insano 145-133
Insano Top 3 players: Tyreek Hill, Antonio Brown, Jimmy Garoppolo
Shady Top 3 players:  Saquon Barkley, Keenan Allen, Tom Brady

Insano DANGER ZONE: Devonta Freeman.  Freeman is banged up and questionable to play this week in Carolina.  Keep an eye on his status when Sunday inactive players come in. Even if he plays, it could be a down week from Freeman who might give up snaps to PPR wonder Tevin Coleman

Shady DANGER ZONE:  LeSean McCoy:  Goose, the Bills are awful.  They're terrible. Nobody is going to fear Josh Allen.  McCoy is going to see stacked boxes all day long.  It's going to be brutal.  PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

Goose will rely on Saquon Barkley to seal the victory for him as he will be the last man up in this matchup which is heavily in Ryan's favor but hey, any given Sunday one of us can surprise the other and pull off the victory.  Anything can happen.

And let's get to my game picks.

Baltimore vs Cincinnati: Give me Baltimore and that ferocious defense to beat Cincinnati on a short week and also Andy Dalton is terrible in prime time.  Andy Dalton is 4-9 all time in prime time games.

Miami vs NY Jets: The New York Jets are going to start the season 2-0, you heard it here first. I think this Jets team is going to surprise people this year.  Darnold is the future and he's going to get his 2nd career win this weekend.

Philadelphia vs Tampa Bay:  Fitzmagic is over, I forgot to mention in our news portion about Ryan Fitzpatrick's absurd fantasy day but it's going to come crashing back down to earth when he faces Jim Schwartz and this swarming Philly defense.

Indianapolis vs Washington: It pains me to pick against the Colts again but Washington is a way better team currently. Adrian Peterson might have another 100 yard game in him against this defense. Colts offense will make it look close but it's really going to be a Washington day.

Cleveland vs New Orleans: I hope for Saints fans sake, that defensive performance was a one week goof but expect this to be a high scoring affair, it might be a Brees/Tyrod shootout for all we know. Then again, Tyrod could get benched for Baker Mayfield.  We'll see.

Kansas City vs Pittsburgh: Mahomes is a great story and all but let's face it, the Steelers should bounce back this week.  How they just ended up tying Cleveland I'll never know but James Conner should be able to put this game away for the Steelers late.

Houston vs Tennessee: UPSET ALERT, I got the Titans beating the Texans mostly due to a lack of pass protection for Deshaun Watson, now I'm sure he'll still put up a decent stat line but I think the Titans pull off the victory due to Dion Lewis.  Call it now.

Carolina vs Atlanta:  This one is pretty simple.  Cam Newton > Matt Ryan.  I have most trust in Cam Newton getting it done for Carolina than I do Matt Ryan.  It could be a shootout, it could be a blowout, this one is too close to call but I'll lean Carolina.

LA Chargers vs Buffalo: I don't think I really need to say anything but two words:  Josh Allen.

Minnesota vs Green Bay:  Sorry Aaron Rodgers, you may be one of the best quarterbacks in the league but you're not surviving this pass rush on one leg.

Detroit vs San Francisco: Short week.  Across the country.  49ers home opener.  Matt Patricia with his arms folded on the sideline.  Stafford writhing in pain.  GG Detroit.

Arizona vs LA Rams: Wow, the Cardinals looked bad last week. Sam Bradford looked like a junior college QB.  I would be fearing for my life going to LA to face Ndamakong Suh, Marcus Peters, and Aqib Talib.  Rams win BIG.

Oakland vs Denver:  I like Case Keenum to have a great game against this Raiders defense that was torched by Jared Goff.  Rough start for Jon Gruden as he starts the season 0-2.

New England vs Jacksonville: The uncertainty of Leonard Fournette is the key point here.  The Jaguars can win this game but like I said last week,  New England always finds a way and they will.  Patriots will win in a close one just like against Houston last week.

NY Giants vs Dallas:  God, I really don't care about this game but it's SNF, so I'm going to watch it.  Hopefully Saquon Barkely is fun to watch.  Why does NBC always let these garbage NFC East game on in prime time.  I hope it's a shootout. Anyways Giants win.

Seattle vs Chicago: I know, Russell Wilson is not Aaron Rodgers and the Bears did look good for two quarters in Green Bay but something tells me we're gonna get some Monday Night Magic and Wilson and the Hawks are gonna pull this one off at the end. Maybe a game winning Janikowski field goal?  Guess we'll find out on Monday.

Walsh's current pick em record: 9-6-1

Walshurleagueout: Week 1

Hello and Welcome to Walshurleagueout, your weekly source for happenings in the GFL.  The Grandville Football League established by Phil Smith in 2009.  The GFL is almost 10 years strong and though we've had turnover at the owner position, roster changes (good and bad), we've almost made it 10 years and I thank everyone who's been apart of it.

I'm your host, Eric Walsh, 4 time champion runner up...the Buffalo Bills of the GFL.  Not 4 consecutive years though...anyways, I'm an owner in the GFL and I figured we needed some more pizzazz to this league, so I'm gonna breakdown this weeks matchups, highlight some key players, DANGER ZONE (you'll see what that is) and give you some of my NFL picks.

So let's get started with some recent transactions and news.

Notre Dame beat Michigan 24-17 in South Bend...oh I'm sorry that's not league related at all.  Don't know how that got in the script.  Good luck Shea Patterson, and remember Shea, It's all in the hips!

ANYWAYS,  Let's get to the real news.

Jerick McKinnon tore his ACL, he's out for the year: Buster is hit with the first major injury leading into the regular season as he loses McKinnon to a torn ACL.  In his place, Alfred Morris and Matt Breida.  Nic picked up Breida, while Buster grabbed Alfred Morris.  I give the slight edge to Alfred Morris due to his past with coach Kyle Shanahan.

Le'Veon Bell is still not reporting to the Steelers:  Uh oh Jeff, Le'Veon Bell is being a stubborn little youknowwhat and hasn't reported to Steelers camp.  This is a must watch situation going into Sunday, if he does not report today,  I do not know if you can trust Le'Veon to be a big part of the Steelers game plan this Sunday against Cleveland.  The man is a headache for fantasy owners but he's talented and that's why he's drafted so high.

Royce Freeman named Broncos starting runningback: LFG, my boy Royce Freeman is going to be starting this Sunday against Seattle.  Drafted by me in the 6th round, Royce was one of "my guys" I was after. Talked up big by podcasts I listen to, I drank the Orange Crush Kool Aid and drafted the kid in 3 out of 5 leagues I'm in.  The kid has Kareem Hunt potential this season.  Go Donks.

Well that's the news.  Let's get onto the main event, WEEK 1 OF THE GFL!  Let's look at the matchups.

Revenge of the Goats (Walsh) vs WHAT BIKE? (Buster)
Projected winner: Goats152-149
Goats Top 3 players: DeAndre Hopkins, Leonard Fournette, Russell Wilson
Bike Top 3 players:  Todd Gurley, Davante Adams, Cam Newton

DANGER ZONE: The Danger zone is the two players to be cautious of in this matchup

Goats DANGER ZONE: Delanie Walker, Delanie Walker is dealing with a  toe injury, he could not be 100% for the game against the Dolphins but if he plays, he's a top play this week.

Bike DANGER ZONE: Greg Olsen, now say what you will about Greg Olsen, he's a hell of a player but I'm going to be real with you, his numbers aren't great, the Panthers are more about Cam.  Well Cam is all about Cam but yeah.  Keep an eye on Greg Olsen's targets this week.

This game is really going to come down to MNF, with Todd Gurley playing late along with the Rams defense also on Buster's team, I'm going to need a strong finish from my guy Jordan Howard to put enough cushion for me to win.  We will see how things turn out.  Best of luck Buster, you got a talented squad.

Lil Skeet Skeet (Philster Goodell) vs Ryan's Team (Ryan, please use Captain Insano)
Projected winner: Ryan 148-136
Skeet Top 3 players: Zeke Elliott, Andrew Luck, Dalvin Cooks
Ryan Top 3 players: Antonio Brown, Jimmy Garoppolo, Devonta Freeman

Skeet DANGER ZONE: Andrew Luck, Luck is a great QB, he's a great athlete but he has not shown off that rocket arm he once had, maybe he was holding back in the preseason but the fact remains the same, the Colts offensive line is still a work in progress, Luck is a high risk/high reward play this week.

Ryan DANGER ZONE: Jimmy Garoppolo, listen I know people love Jimmy G, Jimmy Handsome, he's the guy right now but going on the road to play Minnesota could be a disaster, Ryan has no choice since Wentz is his backup and already out for Week 1 but Garoppolo could struggle this week but hey,  #YOLO.

Ryan is going to hope that Phil is already done for by Sunday night but if not, he will rely on Matt Prater and the Lions defense to lift him over the top into the W column.  I think he has a good chance of victory if Darius Slay can get him a pick six.

Kilmer's Coyotes (Will) vs Shady Draft Strats (Goose)
Projected winner: Will 148-141
Coyotes Top 3: David Johnson, Michael Thomas, Rob Gronkowski
Shady Top 3: Tom Brady, Saquon Barkley, Keenan Allen

Coyotes DANGER ZONE: Josh Gordon,  I know Josh Gordon is the supposed savior of Cleveland after LeBron left but let's face it, the dude has issues, sure maybe he wanted to avoid Hard Knocks and yes, he's getting sober from his alcohol and drug issues but you're putting a lot of trust in him for a Week 1 matchup against Pittsburgh.

Shady DANGER ZONE: Saquon Barkley, you got a big set of cajones Goose to start a rookie running back in his first career start...AGAINST THE JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS.  But there is going to be volume there and hopefully a touchdown so hey, go big or go home.

With a close game projected, this one is coming down to the MNF double header, Goose will rely on Marvin Jones and Amari Cooper while Will hopes Cooper Kupp finds the end zone once or twice to secure the victory, this game is a toss up imo.

OMWTFYB (Nic) vs KZOO RIVER MONSTERS (Jeff)
Projected winner: Nic 157-139
FYB Top 3: Alvin Kamara, Christian McCaffery, Deshaun Watson
KZoo Top 3: Le'Veon Bell, AJ Green, Drew Brees

FYB DANGER ZONE: Tyler Eifert, despite being a former Notre Dame player, I'm worried about Tyler Eifert, the man cannot stay healthy, he's like Gronk lite.  It's a smart idea to play him against the hapless Indianapolis Colts defense but I worry about durability.

KZoo DANGER ZONE: Le'Veon Bell, like I already said, he has not reported to Steelers camp, he might not be part of the game plan against Cleveland. He had a pedestrian game against Cleveland last year in Week 1 also.  Not saying it's gonna be Deja Vu but...welp.

Nic's team is stacked with PPR gold (Kamara and McCaffery) and is peppered with high upside RB talent, he really did draft well.  Adding Deshaun Watson is just icing on the cake. Jeff is going to need strong games out of Le'Veon Bell, Jay Ajayi, and Drew Brees to make this closer. If it is close though, Greg Zuerlein for Nic and Robert Woods for Jeff will be duking it out for the win.

OBJs give me a Chubb (KJ, defending champ) vs Tyler's Team (Tyler...duh)
Projected winner: Tyler 139-132
OBJ Top 3: Aaron Rodgers, Odell Beckham Jr. , Kareem Hunt
Tyler Top 3: Melvin Gordon, Julio Jones, Kirk Cousins

OBJ DANGER ZONE: Randall Cobb,  Randall Cobb may be one of Rodgers targets but with Davante Adams and Geronimo Allison getting receptions and throwing Jamal Williams into the mix, he could have a down game.

Tyler DANGER ZONE: Kelvin Benjamin, yes, he is going to be Peterman's top target for the game against Baltimore but Kelvin Benjamin has had multiple ailments and injuries through his career, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.  Proceed with caution.

KJ will rely on Aaron Rodgers and Trey Burton to provide enough cushion to hold onto a victory while Tyler will root on Robby Anderson to get the bulk of receptions in Sam Darnold's first career game and for Marshawn Lynch to go BEAST MODE and steal the victory on MNF.

Well that's the matchups, here's my NFL picks as an added bonus.

Atlanta vs Philadelphia:  I'm gonna take the Falcons in an upset, despite Philly's defense, I think Atlanta gets off to a fast start and Foles and the offense struggle and the Falcons take down the defending champs to start Week 1.

Tampa Bay vs New Orleans: Give me the Saints to beat the Buccaneers without Jameis Winston, I don't instill much confidence in Ryan Fitzpatrick to defeat the Saints defense.  Saints win big.

Buffalo vs Baltimore: Baltimore big time, that defense is no joke and Nathan Peterman is going to be eaten alive by Terrell Suggs.

Houston vs New England: Listen, I like Houston's squad a lot but you don't go against Tom Brady in Week 1 even up against all odds.  Tom Brady finds a way like he always does.

Jacksonville vs New York Giants: The Jaguars defense is a top 3 unit in the league, Eli Manning is old and dopey, there will be turnovers and the Jaguars will take care of the Giants easily

San Francisco vs Minnesota: I'll take the Vikings at home to beat the 49ers in a shootout and Kirk Cousins to deliver his first win in the Purple Reign.  Jimmy G struggles but the Niners make it close.

Pittsburgh vs Cleveland: Cleveland is not the joke they once were but they still don't have the firepower to match that Steelers offense.  Big Ben throws 3 TDs in the win.

Cincinnati vs Indianapolis: As much as it pains me, the Colts are not a great team, the Bengals will roast them.  Dalton and AJ Green have a big game against a lackluster Colts secondary.

Tennessee vs Miami: I like Marcus Mariota to deliver the Titans a W because I simply think the Titans are the better team but this game could go either way.

Kansas City vs LA Chargers: I like Philip Rivers to outperform Pat Mahomes and for this darkhorse Chargers team to get their first win this season.  Kansas City still a work in progress after the loss of Matt Nagy, now the head coach of Chicago

Dallas vs Carolina: The turnover in Dallas is too much to overcome as Cam Newton and the Panthers walk all over the Cowboys.  Zeke Elliott will have a decent game but expect big games from Newton and McCaffery.

Seattle vs Denver: I'll take the Broncos at home to beat out Russell Wilson and the Seahawks in what should be a close game but I think the Seahawks struggle a few drives and the Broncos salt the game away.

Washington vs Arizona: This is a great game, Sam Bradford vs Alex Smith, should be a shootout, I like the Cardinals defense to get pressure on Smith and deliver the W though.

Chicago vs Green Bay: Despite the great moves Chicago has made and the addition of Khalil Mack, I still think Aaron Rodgers is the best QB in the NFL and he will find a way to get the Packers the W.

New York Jets vs Detroit: Despite Detroit looking lackluster in the preseason, Sam Darnold on the road for his first career start against a solid Lions team should equal a Lions victory.

LA Rams vs Oakland: This should be a cakewalk for the Rams offense now that Khalil Mack is in Chicago, the Rams led by Jared Goff and Todd Gurley should easily take care of the Raiders and the Rams defense will have Derek Carr running for his life.

Well that's Week 1 in the GFL.  See y 'all in the next column.
